The End Is Near: Bill Gates Predicts World Shattering Epidemic

Bill Gates is known for many incredible things:

  • Founder of Microsoft
  • Richest man in the world
  • One of the worlds leading philanthropists (The Bill and Melina Gates Foundation)

Most of us are worry we are too late to stop climate change with recycling efforts and sustainable energy sources like new clean gasoline, or that a meteor will randomly wipe us out.

Bill suggests there is something far more likely to devastate the human race, and it’s coming soon.

Disaster In Our Lifetime

Keeping in mind that Bill Gates is 59 years old he suggests it’s a coin flip that a massive humanity altering global epidemic will strike in the next 20 to 30 years.

In his philanthropic work Bill Gates has funded a research group to create modelling software that allowed them to help their work in tracking and eradicating polio.

Specifically Mr. Gates created models for the last great disease that wiped out as many human lives worldwide as World War 2:  The Spanish Flu.

Spanish flu is estimated to have killed 65 million people from 1918 to 1919.

So with a few assumptions made, and running a disease like the Spanish flu into his disease modelling software…

“Within 60 days it’s basically in all urban centers around the entire globe. That didn’t happen with the Spanish flu.”

Since 1918 there has been many improvements in modern healthcare, but there’s also been at least a 50 fold increase in transportation networks.

Keep in mind in 1918 not everyone had a car to drive to an airport where they’d wait to board one of hundreds of planes to land that day before hopping on a cruise ship docking in major ports of multiple countries.

“We’ve created, in terms of spread, the most dangerous environment that we’ve ever had in the history of mankind.”

A disease similar to the Spanish flu could wipe out over 33 million people in as little as 250 days.

Ebola Proved We Aren’t Ready

The recent spread of Ebola in the world showed Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, that we are simply not ready to deal with a highly contagious and deadly disease vector.

“The Ebola epidemic showed me that we are not ready for a serious epidemic. An epidemic that would be more infections and would spread faster than Ebola did.” – Bill Gates.

Bill references the United States Defense budget spending which in 2015 was around $560 billion.

If instead less than a billion dollars was spent on research and development, medical surveillance, standby personnel and cross training military forces for managing logistics of a health crisis… we might actually have a shot of curbing the death toll.

Bill Gates is Optimistic, Let’s Listen

Homer-Simpson-the-End-is-NearThis is not a random human on a soap box predicting that “the end is near“.

Bill Gates is an incredibly smart human, with access to massive wealth, technology, and resources.

He suggests for the first time in human history we have the tools to fight these types of issues, and he believes this to be the most predictable threat in the history of the human race.

He’s proven himself with The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to be truly concerned with helping humanity.

So when he predicts a massive epidemic event, we should probably listen.
